Peter Brown, NEAC, an all-weather painter renowned for his work in Bath over the past 15 years, has agreed to chair the judging panel this year. Known locally as ‘Pete the Street’ he works directly from his subject using charcoal, oil and pastel. His solo exhibition at Bath's Victoria Art Callery in April and May achieved great critical acclaim and significant sales success. His previous solo shows were at Alexander Meddowes, Edingburgh. and Messum's, Cork Street, London. Frequently Asked QuestionsHow is the Bath Prize different?This competition is for new work inspired by a location in the city of Bath. You will be required to produce one painting relating to a location that is allocated to you. Details will be sent to you by email as soon as your entry and payment are received. How do I enter a painting for the Bath Prize?This competition is run online. You complete the entry form to register and then pay the fee for one or more pictures. When the fee is received you will be sent an email with a location in the city of Bath. At least one of your paintings must be inspired by this location but you are free to interpret that location as you wish. If you wish you can pay the fee for additional pictures at any time before 6th September, For your additional paintings you are free to choose any location in the city. Click here For full submission information.How do I submit the finished picture?This is done online and requires a digital photograph of your work. When you have taken the picture and loaded it on to your computer you log in to the Bath Prize website using your user name and password. This takes you to your entry page where you click the button "Submit entries now". This takes you to the Entries page and details of jpeg requirements are shown on the right of the page. Upload the image by clicking the browse button and locating your jpeg and then clicking to confirm. Then complete the details about the picture and press the submit button. Can I check my submitted picture?Your painting will be shown on your gallery page and on the Bath Prize Gallery. Do I have to visit Bath to do the painting?Your first painting will be inspired by a location allocated by ballot. You will need a visit to assess the possibilities and take full advantage of all the visual treats the City has to offer. Will I be able to sell my painting?Yes, either at the exhibition in Bath on through the online gallery when judging is complete. Can I submit prints or photography?The competition is not open to prints and photography. However, digital work, including digitally enhanced photographs will be accepted. What size of image is requiredModern digital cameras, and many mobile phones, now produce images in excess of six million pixels and some exceed 14 million pixels. For loading on to the website the image should be reduced to around 1 million pixels i.e. a maximium of 1000 pixels wide or 1000 pixels high. The image must be in .jpg format and must not be bigger than 1Mb in size. |

Bigger and better in 2011The Bath Prize is an annual painting competition. This year it will celebrate work produced in the summer of 2011 and inspired by locations within the City of Bath. The competition is open to professional and amateur painters at all levels and has been designed to produce a multi-faceted portrait of this very special place. To ensure that the whole of the City is covered, entrants will be required to produce at least one painting inspired by a specified location in the Georgian heart of the City, these locations will be allocated by ballot. Artists will be encouraged to work on the streets, en plein air, but they can also sketch or photograph their subject and complete the work elsewhere.
